The Pope has little or no support of Bishops
The Catholic Church has lived with the sex scandals and priests have been admonished when the stories go public only. I have the experience that the leadership including Bishops and Cardinals know of this immoral behaviors but tend to turn a blind eye.
Last year I caught the Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi red handed with my wife in Namibia, having caught them again 6 months earlier at Capital Hotel. The Bishop Mkhori of the Lilongwe Diocese and the Archbishop Ziyaye of were informed and the Priest was sued in a Divorce case as the second respondent, however he is happily practicing and there has been no reprimand nor behavioral change in the least. http://www.e-malawi.blogspot.com
This is the very priest (named Fr. Joseph Mpinganjira) who is romoured (confirmed) to have a son even at the time of his appointment as Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi. The Archbishop knows about it. It is an open secret.
So to me and the rest of the inner circle, it is the sort of lip service that is designed to rebuild the image of the Church, but without matching Action, I believe no matter how match is said by the Pope wont yield any goodwill from the community.

WHY EVERY CATHOLIC IS RESPONSIBLE
There have been many studies as to what the common denominator is between sexual child abuse and the Roman Catholic priesthood...and for all the "answers" that have been postulated, one is never mentioned...which is that..besides the obvious reason of "celebacy" requirement and "homosexuality"...is that Roman Catholic priests are made to believe that the greatest intimacy with Christ happens when he celebrates Mass...when, in reality, there is not an ounce of spiritu-al "nourishment in the Eucharist...The Bible talks about man as a tri-dimensional being...body, soul and spirit...and when the Bible also talks about the "spirit-led" life it means that man's spirit...when empowered by the Holy Spirt...has the power to "lead" the desires of man's soul....the spirit of the priests were anemic...and unable to "lead" their desires...because they sought spiritual "food" from the Eucharistic Christ rather than from Christ, Himself...While the word has been used and abused, Christ told us...in the gospel of John...that "unless a man be 'born again' he cannot inherit the kingdom of God...What needs to be "born again" is man's dead spirit...as a result of the fall...Catholics are responsible for the "sins of the fathers" in that they do not take a stand against a "religion" that promotes doctrines that contradict the Bible!!! The "sins of the fathers" is but a symptom of this real malaise...Jesus said, "ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set ye free" and because of the lies of some Catholic doctrines, our priests were not "set free"...by the truth that sets men free...but, rather, were put in bondage...Catholics, READ YOUR BIBLE and believe what it says that the Holy Spirit will teach you...and lead you into all truth...Does it make sense that Christ would found His church on a man rather than on Himself? How can you believe if there was a "purgatory", Jesus would not have told us about it in the Gospels?
Priest Needs a Wife
It would be very healthy and wholesome, for the Catholic church to allow priests to marry.
Let's get real. Most of these priests are pastors, which have emotional and physical needs. It is very biblical for pastors to marry, have a wife, and even have a family.
IMHO, this is where the root problem rests.... the dogmatic statement of vows of various sorts... one being single the rest of your life... which is not healthy.
Let the priests marry (one man, one woman marriage) and continue in their positions. Long term, this would greatly help the catholic church.
