Q&A with Stefan Lonce

A boom in personalized license plates

Posted January 16, 2008

What is your favorite story?
The book is a lighthearted thing. Some stories are funny, some are compelling. One couple had been married 40 years. He was in end-stage renal failure and going to die. She donated her kidney to him. Her plate is DONOR; his plate is DONEE. I find that to be such a wonderful love story. That's kind of what my book is about.

Do you believe DMVs will eventually figure this is more trouble than it's worth?
It won't be DMVs that decide. It will be state legislatures. I think it would disappoint people. You're not only being fun, but people have messages to communicate. The fact that people are going to court to keep their vanity plates just goes to show you how passionate people are about these things.
