kidney stones

My doctor told me to drink at least a beer a night to flush out the kidneys. More than one doctor's advise. Cheers to the stone

stone prevention

I used to pass kidney stones about once a year. Five years ago a urologist told me to drink a full cup of water right before going to bed; and if I get up in the night to pass urine, drink another cup then. His reasoning was that the body gets dehydrated at night, and most stones form then. I haven't passed a stone since beginning this practice.

Also five years ago I had just moved to a new home that has very hard well water. I have a theory that the abundant calcium in the water may bond with oxalate in the digestive tract, forming harmless stones there, so that less oxalate reaches the kidneys.

Hyperparathyroidism and kidney stones

I am a 34 year old female and started getting stones while pregnant at age 29. I had 5 stones surgicially removed!! Turned out I had a hyper-parathryoid. The parathyroid works with blood calcium. It was producing too much and instead of being absorbed into the blood and bones, it was being excreted... Have it checked!! I have not had a kidney stone since having the parathyroid removed 1 1/2 years ago.

Bubba in Walla Walla

My doc told me to drink at least 8 beers a night. So if I get a stone I'll pass out before the pain hits.

Great tips

Thanks for the tips. A long time ago, a friend of mine started to pass a too-large stone while on a transatlantic air flight. I can't imagine many experiences worse than that. I wish there were a simple annual test to determine if you have stones forming (and a painless way to get rid of them).

CANCER TUMOR NOTICE BY A KIDNEY STONE

I HAD A KIDNEY STONE ONCE BEFORE AND KNEW WHAT THE PAIN WAS FROM THE FIRST TIME SO I WENT TO EMERGENCY ROOM BECAUSE THE PAIN WAS SO SEVERE. AFTER A CAT SCAN THEY FOUND A GROWTH OFF MY LEFT KIDNEY WHICH WAS A SURPRISE TO ME. AFTER A STENT WAS INSTALL ; I WAS TO RECEIVE A PARTIAL NEFROMETOMY. THE TUMOR WAS CANCEROUS BUT NOT INFECTIOUS. WELL I LOOK FORWARD TO MANY YEARS OF A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AND IF IT WASNT FOR THE KIDNEY STONE . MY LIFE COULD HAVE HAD A DIFFERENT ENDING

My stone was blasted last tues-did not work still in the left kidney-I am playing a trip across the map with a hope and prayer nothing happpens-the doc wants my body to heal a few months before he does anything or he thinks maybe with the fluids I may pass it-it is not to big to have that happen
