Tell me how do you think above universities can be called the best university ?
who makes this ranking ? and what is the reference of standard for the best university ?
If the ranking was set-up by other country, I believe above university didnot include in the top 10 best universities. Also, most of the best universities that I read from media was dominated from US ...This is so overwhelming but wanting. It seems like no other university is the best...Also, I got some lecture notes and exam materials from the best UniversitieS Above, was So Easy...doesn't show high standard quality that I thought for the best university ....I think this ranking is not usefull at all and doesn't reflect the good guide universities....Also, the nobel prize winners are mostly from other countries NOT only from US. They just come to US to find better life....So, They work at some the best universitieS that YOU called (not I called), But they are not originally from US and then they win Nobel prize......So, the university has good name at the same time. BUT, it should be noted that they are NOT from the best university like you called it.....I guess this ranking is just politic in educational system which reflects discriminant for other country and also it's just market....
its engineering
First of all its a ranking for engineering. Why are you mentioning which university wins math or physics competitions most of the time ?
Second of all, there are a lot of things they consider and do a lot of research while doing this ranking, and its well accepted. So I presume, just because you don't know, it does not make it a "nonsense"
Need to clarify this ranking
I don't think this ranking is good guide for university. Beside, this is just advertising to make university more famous. That's it. I found several universities in Russia, France and Indonesia have good quality in Science and Engineering. Let say, Indonesia, every years this country wins Gold Medal for International Olympic of Physics and Mathematics. Also, I can see some universities outside the top university in the world, have high level on Mathematics and Physics like Russia, Indonesia, and France. Russia also is still the best in Mathematics and Physics. So I can see that the top universities in above is just nonsense at all. This is nothing more in advertising. It does NOT show and standard good guide university. Also, who makes this ranking ?. I can see they are not competent to show this.
getting into IIT
NO DOUBT GETTING INTO IIT IS DIFFICULT THAN MOST OTHER INSTITUTES OF THE WORLD.........BUT ONLY VERY PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS ACTUALLY GETTING INTO IIT DO IT BECAUSE OF INTEREST REST OF THEM GO THERE BECAUSE THEY EXPECT HIGH SALARY AFTER THAT.
THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BASIC SYSTEM IN INDIA AND ABROAD.
U WILL FIND PPL DOING A COURSE ABROAD BECAUSE THEY HAVE AN INCLINATION FOR IT NOT LIKE IN INDIA THAT EVERYONE HAS TO BE EITHER AN ENGINEER OR A DOCTOR OR UR CONSIDERED WASTE.
AND PPL BEING RIGID ABOUT IIT PLEASE REMOVE UR MIND BLOCKS AND LEARN TO APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT A UNIVERSITY CAN ONLY PROCEED AHEAD IF IT INVESTS IN RESEARCH AND NOT IN MUGGING UP THE SAME THING AGAIN AND AGAIN.
AND RIGHTLY SAID IF A CHILD IS TAUGHT ON ONE TRACK FROM CLASS 6TH ANY FOOL WILL GET INTO IIT.
IITIANS ARE TALENTED NO DOUBT BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN THE COLLEGE NEEDS TO BE 1RANKED JUST BECAUSE ITS TOUGH TO GET INTO.
WE NEED TO STOP THE COACHING INSTITUTES WHICH AGAIN IS A BUSINESS RUNNING ON HERD MENTALITY IN INDIA.
FOR GOD SAKE THERE ARE SPECIAL IIT FOUNDATION SCHOOLS IN SOUTH WHICH TAKE CHILDREN FROM CLASS 5 AND TRAIN THEM FOR IIT.
THIS IS NOT THE WAY OF EDUCATION BUT JUST HOARDING A DEGREE TO MAKE MONEY.
PLEASE WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ranking of iit
viewing from the aspest of student potential to do optimum with minimum resource(excelence of an engineer) iitian (iit kanpur as a reference) has to be ranked undoubdtly ultimate ...................hence iit (just lacking in terms of fund or resources ) has to be.............

IIT Brand
There is no doubt that getting in any IIT is much more difficult than getting into many of the higher ranked universities. I have a friend who is the son of an emminent gujarati industrialist who owns the largest brand selling soaps in the country. He was not elligible for getting admission in any good engineering college of india, forget iits, he wasnt elligible for getting admission in any of the top 250 colleges in country. I cleared the JEE and later when i logged into facebook, i found that riding on the might of his families income, the boy, who couldn't clear the AIEE is today a student of Georgia Tech. (12th rank in world) !! Its a living truth!
THE JUDGEMENT TO IIT
I PERFECTLY AGREE WITH THE REPORT A STUDENT GETTING INTO IIT IS A LOT THAN GETTING INTO MIT BUT I KNOW HOW STUDENTS GET INTO IITS FEEDING THE WORST ACADEMIC CULTURE OF COACHING INSTITUTES AND PEOPLE LOTTING MONEY AND LIFE OF STUDENTS RIGHT FROM CLASS 6 ARE FEED LIKE HE-BUFFELOS. HOPE THIS COUNTRY IS OUT OF THIS ALARMING CONDITION SITUATION WHERE ARE IITS ARE SOULY RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT GIVING STUDENTS PROPER GUIDLINES FOR ENTERTING THESE WORSE INSTITUTE AND MOST STUDENTS GET IN THINKING THAT IITIANS GET GOOD PAY SCALE OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL CAUSE FOR WHICH THESE INSTITUTES ARE FOR

I am agreed with Rahul.There are so many other factors which decide the rank of the university other than quality of students.And Getting into IIT is a lot more difficult than getting into other top-ranked universities.
