How the Stimulus Helps You Pay for College
Experts say the tax credits probably won't help much, but the Pell grant increase could work

stimulus money for college education
I receive disability social security. I am in my second year of college and working on a bachelor degree. I can barely make ends meet on my $760.00 per month. I want to go into a PA program at my local university, but I don't know if I can get help to pay tuition. How is this going to help me. The state of Tn. has scholarship money from the lottery but I don't qualify since I have been out of school since 1971.That is another situation that I think is unfair.
couple technical errors otherwise OK
when reading tax law (or tax publications) the devil is in the details. couple tecnical erros above otherwise OK
it goes like this
1. there is the description of what you think you will get
2. then there is/are the definitions of all the words and wording
(this is important) its somplace.
3. then there is the exception, exclusions and exceptions
then after all this IRS publications are NOT the definitive word only the law is (Title 26) And Senate Bills
You need to connect all the dots until you are sure that you have it all interconnected defined and researched.
THEN... you have a 50-50 chance you got it right
CAO
this is big help
The article says it wont do much, but an extra $2,000 in my pocket at tax time is great!! I'm a part time college student, working full time and will get the credit for the next couple years. I'll spend it on something nice, hopefully not made in China. Until then, we need to take this opportunity to pay for a few classes each quarter or semester and improve our knowledge skills and reinvest ever4ything for the better..

Tax credit
My daughter will have 9,000 in student loans come this September and that was for a 9 month technical school program. The loans (Sallie Mae private student loans which I hear Obama is doing away with and so as to make people get government loans only) are in her name. Next tax year can she get a tax credit and apply that toward the loan? We claim her as a dependent, she is 18 turning 19. All this tax credit stuff is so confusing. If the government wants to keep giving out money, why don't they just give the colleges money so they don't have to charge so much for tuition and forget about all this tax credit, lifetime learning, Hope, new education tax credit garbage. People need money ahead of time to afford college. Kids graduating with $40,000+ in loans is ridiculous, especially with no jobs available for them when they finish. If they are fortunate enough to finish. Colleges and Universities should not be so expensive. Same goes for auto insurance and healthcare. I am so sick and tired of college being only for the rich and poor. This new increase in Pell Grants is stupid. All it does is continues to help the low income, rightly so, but it does not help the middle class that needs it most and is sending the most amount of kids to college.
Education Help
I wonder if the Government can pay off my college loan, it is due in May if I don't ask for a deferrment. I already was asked if I had any loans on the internet like through loan companies, and I don't want my college loans to cut into my social security. I expect to graduate in two months.
Huh?
I think Jeff in WI is very amusing. I never heard any fiscal conservatives complaining about debt funding huge payments to private contractors with friends in government while we pursued an ill defined war with no transparency.
I guess it's just education that Jeff finds offensive.
Hey Every American
Are you in debt? Do you owe anyone money?
BORROW!! Yes all you need to do is borrow money to get out of debt. Wow! What a revelation! If all I need to do is follow the example of "good ol' uncle Sam", I'll have no problems.
So all you third world countries, make sure you follow the leader!
Borrow, borrow, borrow and spend, spend, spend! You'll be just as free as we are. Barrack (aka:joe soetoro) Obama and all the kool-aid drinkers just can't be wrong.
Education Help
The government does not have a problem giving tax credits to anyone regardless of what income level they fall into, whether it is low-income, middle income, or high income families. What about education? Why is education help being given only to those K-12.
What about giving tuition help to anyone regardless of their age? The government should be helping everyone not just in all areas of tax credits, but in all areas of spending too!
Pell Grants
If you are disabled and over the age of 50, what are the chances of receiving a pell grant for creative writing on line. I live on permanent disability, I have no GED, but I do have a Certificate from a Vo-Tech and have some minor college. I have worked in real estate law for the most part of my life, 27 years, I am self taught and there is little problem leasrning anything.
