School Buses
I saw a report on television recently that stated that the school buses only get around 8 miles to the gallon and there is a school district that has school buses that run on propane. Municipalities should have started switching to other fuels such as propane, natural gas or hydrogen years ago. The federal government could have given large cities such as NYC some kind of incentive for making the switch to alternative fuels that are cleaner than diesal. NYC has a large bus fleet, I would like to ask Mayor Bloomberg, do you have any plans for phasing out diesal school and city buses (which pollute the air and smell) to vehicles which are cleaner and run on natural gas? If a big city like NYC were to do this it would encourage the surrounding counties to phase out their diesal fleets and we would be better off in the long run with cleaner air. This could also apply to other city owned vehicles, NYPD Hybrid patrol cars, FDNY vehicles, Sanitation vehicles. Since these vehicles are returned to bus depots, sanitation depots, etc. at night they could probably install natural gas pumps or Hydrogen or whatever kind of pump which is needed for refueling at the depots pretty easily.
