A mayor perse, whether he or she should not be responsible for education because one would have to assume that anyone who is in control of policing the city should use the same leverage to control the should. I firmly believe that becoming an intellectual and more sensitive human being should be the primary goal of education. Police and many elected officials are too aggressive and insensitive to the needs of the poor and elderly. They have a greater thirst for money and power than a truly educated person. When I think of the character in an Anton Chekkov’s short story called “The Bet,” I think of a lawyer who preferred his freedom over stealing money because he learned to appreciate reading. However, as an educated person and concerned parent, I have discovered that I treasure freedom because through reading and the application of knowledge I have grown to value my freedom.

Power is Truth

More propoganda spread by Klein's 'truth' squad. Twenty years later, the social purity movement has succeeded in resegregating our cities and created a two-tier school system of probables and possibilities. They've waged a deceitful war on poverty by taking away funding for the poor, replaced textbooks with garbage and forced teachers to use scripted lesson plans. Klein and his associates would prefer burning heretics than debate ethics and standards. Where there is only hope; there is always green. Saul Bellow said something similiar - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance."

Educational improvement

No political posturing or distorted statistics will change the basic truth that children will learn in school when their parents demand that they behave, do their homework, study hard, and when parents demand that kids achieve Bs and As. Turn off the TV, limit the video games, require reading time, demand good behavior and act like a parent. Blaming the teachers, school, physical plant, administration is refusing to admit to the basic problem.
