A&M should be #1

I can't believe Texas is ranked higher than A&M in the Big 12 Conference. I went to both schools and it's not even close. A&M is far superior in every aspect. Anyone who thinks otherwise is, well, a, ummmm, moron. Tools!!

What about em?

There are plenty of Mid Major conferences listed. You have to go into the article to get to those drop down lists. For those of you complaining about the lack of small NE schools, DIV III??? You completely missed the point of the article.

NESCAC isn't division one

For everyone complaining about NESCAC not being part of this, it is because NESCAC is not a Division 1 Conference and sends no teams to the NCAA Tournament. This list is aimed at power conferences that will be playing in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Being Complete

Not only was the NESCAC omitted, so were most of the other non-BCS conferences. Where's the MWC? The WAC? etc....

Let's be compleete here...!!!

What about the NESCAC - the New England Small College Athletic Conference? These are schools for athletes with brains - who value education more than the field and who play their sport for the love of the game, rather than for the bucks they may make off the game later on. In other words, athletics at these schools (Amherst, Hamilton, Williams, Bates, Middlebury, Bowdoin, etc.)are an adjunct to academics, rather than the other way around. To many of us, this is as it should be.....

How about it, US News???

The rankings are of little value.

I know US News, etc. sells magazine on these "rankings", however there are many unreported factors which affect the rankings. Many Universities didn't take the requested information seriously. The fact is most students will not use these "ranking" as the basis of choice of schools. The fact is it is less important where you went to college, than how well you perform in your job/s after college.

Rankings mostly useless:

Graduation percentages and grade point averages of the Athletic Departments might be an interesting comparison between schools, but on the whole rankings do no tell one much about the value of each institution. Go Penn State!

Rankings, shmankings!

Again, the Missouri Valley Conference, with its 'mid-major' schools gets no respect. Why should I be surprised?

What's the cumulative GPA of the entire athletic program of these "major" schools? We're holding a cumulative 3.06 among the whole department, in every sport, at SIU-Carbondale, and we graduate our kids, in addition to picking up a few academic All-Americans, and Dean's List-ers along the way.

We're like Avis, I guess: we try harder--especially without all that TV revenue and corporate endorsement moolah coming in every other day.

Oh, well. "Hail Alma Mater, Southern to Thee, Strong through the years you stand triumphantly!"

What about the other conferences?

This is another example of bias toward the "Big Conference" schools but now it is spilling through to the academic side. It is bad enough that the non-BCS schools have to put up with athletic bias, but to then put together a list that excludes what are likely many of the best academic institutions because they are not in a big athletic conference is unconscionable.

Did you do anything to determine any correlation between the athletic prowess of the conference these schools are in and their cumulative academic ratings?
