How We Calculate the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Rankings

Huge Mistake

As a Howard Alum, I was definately suprised to see that FAMU was ranked this low. I believe that you all made a serious mistake with the ranking of Florida A&M University. FAMU was Princenton Review's 1996 College of Year. In 2000 and 2001 it recruited the Most Black National Merit Scholars of ANY university. In 2006 it was ranked Black Enterprises #1 HBCU. This proves a renowned journal such as the US NEWS even gets it wrong sometimes. Def should have been in the top ten, if not the top five. I think Bill Clinton spoke at the commencement address last spring. LOL. Oh well.

Graduation Rate

Though graduation rates and retention rates are an important statistic. It currently weights 25% in this system. African Americans women graduate at a rate way higher than African American males. That is one of the reasons Spelman College, an all girls school is always at the top. No disrespect (it is a great institution) but there should be some formula that factors that in to make the rankings a bit more accurate. It is not fair to compare any all female school to one that has males. The statistics will never reflect correctly.

Why is it that graduation rates are not factored in? That's a pretty important factor to leave out. What about the perception of the school by companies/recruiters and graduate programs? What about some metric that measures the success of a school at producing graduates who are prepared to enter the workforce? Maybe the rankings would be too practical then.

Rankings maybe of some use than the emphazis that are putin it. I beleieve that Oakwoood University of Huntsville, Alabma should have one of the highest rankings because it lends itself to many many diverse groups and people. I will look at this ranking again and I think you people should also.

sir, i have applied for cuw twice but my visa got rejected ,i was very confident and i have a good financial back ground and acadamic's , this university doesn't require GRE and TOFEL and what i want to know is about the university is it a good or black listed university in us .

because i was been to embassy twice the consulate seeing the university name itself he cancelled my VISA. so plz tell abt the university can i apply to this university again in next fall.
