Franklin and Marshall College

Franklin and Marshall College (F&M) is worth a look. Sure it's in Lancaster, PA but the school is doing great things around the community and around the world. As an example, just last spring the men's soccer team traveled to South Africa to participate in the grass roots soccer campaign, using the game of soccer in order to promote HIV prevention among youth.

The academics are second to none and really challenge you, but at the same time every faculty member makes it a point to help you in any way that they can.

Therefore, if you are interested in making a difference in the world and want to get started right away, F&M will help you get there. With that said, if you're set on getting into a great grad school or professional school (ie med school) kids in my graduating class and previous classes have gotten into Harvard Law, Cambridge University, Jefferson Medical College etc., lending creedence to the idea that it's what you do at college that makes a difference.

Honestly, I go to Harvard and I didn't have the highest GPA in my class--and I have friends who go to college who didn't have the highest GPAs either. Understandably, I was accepted two years ago but regardless the Harvard admissions process is not as soul-less as some would think. It's more than ECs and grades--they really do look at the entire 'package' and ask themselves, "will you be successful here?" I understand that many high school students would like to go to Harvard, but honestly if you do what you love and do it well (be it Chinese language or math Olympiads), you'll get in. And if you don't there will be other great schools which will accept you--and you'll get over it.

University of Chicago

University of Chicago is the place to go. It gives you the Harvard education and the name, but gives you so much more. It's the "ivy" that's not an ivy... Apply to U. of C. if you think you have what it takes. It's a very self-selective place meaning that all those who apply think they'll get in. So if you consider yourself part of that self-selective University of Chicago community, go for it! Don't let a B-plus or A-minus average get you down. University of Chicago is by far the hardest and most rigorous undergraduate institution in America, however, they do not solely look at numbers among the applicants as do Harvard, Yale, etc. U. of C. truly cares about the applicant, not just the numbers behind the name. Go for it! Go for the ivy that's not an ivy and join a community where 'the life of the mind' is real.

I am a black female who is going to be a sophomore in high school this fall. Any suggestions of how I can get into and ivy league school- beyond a high gpa and stellar SAT scores.

Hi everybody! I am an international students from the Ivory Coast. I am right now in Bunker Hill Community College in Boston. I am attending this school because I do not have enough money to go to one of these good schools. In my country the education is way harder than what I have seen here. From the age of 15 to 17 years old we do the first two year of college; and after highschool graduation we can apply to medical school. I really think that it is very depressing to be in an environment where you feel that you don't belong to. Community Colleges have a very bad reputation. Most international students do better academically than us citizen at community colleges. There is an article related to this problem in the Harvard Crimson and it is also about me.
