Student stress
Finally someone has developed a program that will teach students how to handle their anger! Breathing and focusing instead of fists and guns. Students are given strategies to manage their own anger without the aide of a "I caught you being good coupon" or character words posted on a pillar. This is a program that will last them a lifetime and will even assist in managing their blood pressure when they are old and grey. Thanks you, Carla. You are a genius!
Student Stress with Creative Strategies
I whole heartily agree with using Creative Strategies to help with Student Stress. As a grandparent and a Spiritual Formation Minister in Walden Chapel United Methodist church, Goodman, MS, I have witness much improvement in at least four students' behavior, self-confidence and grades- since they have been enrolled for a year in a private owned, Tiger-Bo Taekwondo Center class. This has been confirmed in numerous conversations with parents, Master Earnest Terry, owner, review of report cards, teachers at Goodman-Pickens Elementary school of the Holmes County Public School District, Lexington, MS, Rev. Martha Williams, church minister and others.
I was so excited when I read this article because I had been wondering how to work to help more children especially since I have seen the improvement in my own twelve year old grandson.
Student stress, anger management and achievement
I have seen this program in action, and it is extremely effective! Thank you, Carla, for bringing peace and serenity to our school.
Smart!
No wonder these children are so smart! :)
About Time
It is about time that people begin to be aware of the amount of stress that they have turned school into. It is kind of ironic actually.
All of the mandated testing caused all of the anxiety and stress and now they are going to "help" students deal with it.
What a hoot.
As a teacher in a inner city school I definitely need ways to manage the stress of all the mandates and guidelines besides the pharmacueticals that most of my fellow teachers are taking.
really?
Pressure is a good thing, and it's great to teach ways to deal with it. The real world is wrought with pressure and stress, and this might just help one less person jump out of a window someday. Prayer is the best way to get perspective, but that's not allowed............
Physical Education
There are many ways to handle stress and getting out and playing sports will do more than any of these other ideas. Thanks for your ideas, but I will stick with the ones that got me through stressful times. Al Bush
Teacher trying it here!
Im a highschool teacher in San Antonio, Texas. My school has a long standing tradition of letting students make their own choices and providing tools to cope in the "real world." I cannot say that we have the highest TAKS scores. But I can say that our students (with few exceptions) feel like they are part of a family. School is their outlet. Not a source of stress for them. I personally am introducing stress relieving techniques to support the test preparedness efforts. I do not give homework for my elective class. And I try to make sure each student is listened to, heard, and accommodated on an INDIVIDUAL basis. I am very blessed to be in a school that fosters and encourages this level of commitment and relationship with the students. I know my kids will be alright when they graduate...and that gives me more comfort than any test score. I think this bond is possible because neither I, nor my students, are bombarded with extra, extraneous anxiety perpetuated by "school rules" that don't mean much in the grand scheme. With all that outta the way, the real learning can occur. As adults, we HAVE TO come together and realize the world our kids live in is not a really pleasant one. It is OUR job to make the transition from adolescence to adult hood as smooth as possible. Anything that promotes self control, self esteem, and coping skills is only positive in my eyes. Keep articles/ideas like this coming!
