about student loan debt for home purchase

once you begin paying for your student loans you should have no problem obtaining a home loan. Student loan debt is good debt anyway when considering your credit. You need income of course as well.

frustrated and hurt

I completed my BA, I then went back to get my Masters. I am one class away from completion however, I am 26 and want to become a homeowner and because of my student loans, my debt to income ratio won't allow me to get one. I am devastated. Who knew making something of your life would count against you instead of for me. I just don't know what to do because I am approaching 50-60K in student loans and I just don't know how to feel good about getting an education anymore.

All for nothing

I went to a university right out of high school, although i knew my family didnt have enough money to pay, i refused to go to community college the first two years. I couldnt accept going to the same place my friends were going after i had worked so much harder during high school. My dream was a big college, and a great looking degree. I was a number there, still remember it today 672120977, i wrote that more than my name for a year and a half. The financial department was filled with the people burger king rejected, so they were no help. I could only keep pushing through that school on loans for so long. Now, I am 30,000 dollars in debt, definitly do not have that degree in journalism I worked so hard towards, and truly have no idea where to go from here....military....minimum wage job and my parents basement....since when did trying to get educated mean screwing up the rest of your life?

Student loans and unemployed

I am unemployed until Febuary 2010. I owe a student loan.

private student loans consolidation

I know several people (including myself) who have applied for and been denied for the new IBR. Any ideas why this is when we all met the qualifications outlined in your post?

It really doesn't do much good to offer a federal program like the IBR if little, if anyone is able to be approved for the assistance does it?

Help

I sure could use some help as construction is finished in San Diego-hopeless unemployment.I went to tech school trying to better myself and change trades,the economy crashed and i cant make the monthly payments.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim Orrahood

stressed beyond hope!

I borrowed around 30K, now owe 60K, int. compounds, can't even pay int-only. Journalism degree, what a joke! I work as a carpenter. Worked around 1200 hours last year, probably 1000 this year. Next year? Who knows. I keep getting unemployment deferments when I get laid off, I will never be able to pay off this loan. But I guess I'm kinda lucky - I didn't graduate until I was 38, I'm now 50, I will die before there is any kinda light at the end of the tunnel. My next step is to write my congressman, senators and maybe the White House. If only they would halt the compounding interest and let me pay, say, $100 a month (which is less than the $250-a-month interest-only payment), then maybe I would feel better about actually paying on the principal. AND the lender would actually have some money coming in. As it is, everyone loses, unless they want to garnish my social security check someday. God forbid.
