Kids Can Pick Which SAT Scores a College Sees
The new policy very likely will be popular with students, but what do admissions officers think?

SAT & ACT Parity
The new policy of the SAT will bring test reporting into parity with the ACT. You can take the ACT as many times as you would like and report the test(s) of your choosing. Now the SAT is providing test result reporting on the same basis. Virtually every college claims that they don't care how many times you take the SAT and that they will count only the highest score from each section even if from three separate test dates. Therefore any colleges that object to the new policy are being disingenuous.
Until a few years ago you could withhold your [SAT II] Subject Test(s) results, reporting only your best scores until a few years ago. I suspect that the change in policy was done to remain competitive with the ACT as it gains in popularity on the east and west coast. Currently you can withhold AP grades, so why not SAT I results as well?
It is not clear from the article whether or not this new policy will also apply to the Subject Tests as well.
I have advised all my clients to take the ACT as practice for the SAT and if they score high enough on the ACT to use that test result for submission to the college. I also recommend that only the highest score if it is to be used be reported to the high school since many schools list all test results on official transcripts. Now with this new policy students and take both the ACT and SAT several times and report only the test results that will give them the best advantage.

THAT IS SO UNFAIR
I haven't even started my senior year, yet. I am an A+ student, but everything I have learned so far I taught myself thanks to my horrible Algebra teacher... why can't they start that for this year?? It would be so unfair for us to have less privileges than the underclassmen. We worked just as hard, if not harder than them. They get everything. Now, you're making me want to get held back a year, just kidding. However, this is SO unfair for the poor class of 2009! But wait, if this starts in March of 2009, don't we get this too, I mean if we take our 2nd or extra tests after March?? I just hope so.
The policy is absolute garbage. No student should be able to hid the bad scores they have receive. For the kids who keep taking the test over and over, this policy is a godsend. I believe that colleges can excuse one or two bad test scores, but this policy rewards those who have several, after taking the test many times to get the score they want. These are the kids who can afford to take it as much as they or their parents would like. There is no longer any incentive for these kids to stop, giving even mroe money to the College Board. Now colleges will have no way to distinguish these types from the truly talented kids they would like to admit.
The odds are already against those of lower income, who first of all cannot afford the expensive test preparation programs that the upper middle class and wealthy send their kids to. Why hurt those of lower income even more?
Why not on september of 2008
why doesn't the College Board make this changes for the Class of 2009, its like so unfair that classes after 2008 have a choice to hide or display their SAT scores to their colleges, why them and not those prior to them?We didn't have a choice so what makes them so special...But then again if i did not do good on my SAT test i will retake the test again while in college, then a semester later transfer to the college of my choice with the new College Board Option.ITS not bad nor good in my opinion. But why does the College Board keep changing the RULES.
So unfair for class of 2009
I just finished my junior year and think this is completely unfair to kids in our class. I would love to have this option, and just recently received some scores I'm not so proud of. As I'm applying to very selective schools, a bad test day can undermine high scores I've already received. All students should be able to take advantage of this option. A bad test day happens.
Love It
As part of the group this change is aimed towards (I am a rising junior), I absolutely LOVE this idea. I'm so nervous about doing badly the first time I take the test, and knowing that my first choice college won't see my scores if I bomb makes me feel so much better.
Timing is unfair?
Life isn't unfair at all! If you peruse the article, it says the new policy will "start[ing] in March 2009." As far as I'm concerned, March is the time when "rising seniors" will be receiving the results from colleges they have applied. So, I think College Board intends to implement this policy to the "rising juniors".
Timing is unfair?
Get over it, mom. If it was announced a month ago, it would have been unfair for someone else's baby girl. Life is UNFAIR. Let kiddo stand on her own two feet.
