Ahead of the Curve: Immigration Specialist
Immigration Specialist. The Center for Immigration Studies, a nonpartisan group based in Washington, D.C., used U.S. census data to estimate that since 2000 alone, 10.3 million immigrants have arrived in the United States—the highest seven-year period of immigration in American history. This is giving rise to unprecedented demand, in all sectors, for immigration specialists. Businesses are eager to figure out how to market to this new population. Public schools are struggling to meet the needs of the masses of children who don't speak English (often with uneducated parents). Hospitals, the criminal justice system, other government agencies, and nonprofit advocacy organizations need bilingual people and cultural experts to serve this new population.
