The field has formalized, with 250 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in place or in the works. Insiders report that jobs at the Federal Emergency Management Agency are tight, so the current way into a public-sector job is usually through a local agency. Large organizations such as corporations and universities also hire emergency planning managers.
